EU Announces $52 Million Assistance Package for Armenia

New Delhi/Brussels/Yerevan: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a €52 million (approximately US$52 million, as stated) assistance package for Armenia, reaffirming the European Union’s commitment to supporting the country amid evolving regional geopolitical dynamics international media reported .

According to the media reports announcing the package, von der Leyen said the European Union stands by its partners during challenging times. “When pressure on our partners increases, we step forward to help,” she said, adding that the EU is committed to “building the infrastructure for peace.”

The financial assistance is expected to support Armenia’s development priorities and further strengthen cooperation between Armenia and the European Union across key sectors.

Meanwhile, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan dismissed suggestions that Armenia intends to sever ties with Russia, saying his government is guided solely by national interests.

“We do not want to spoil relations with Russia. We only work in the interests of our country,” Pashinyan said, underlining Armenia’s effort to maintain a balanced foreign policy.

The announcement comes at a time when Armenia has been expanding its engagement with the European Union and the United States, while recalibrating aspects of its traditional relationship with Russia. The evolving diplomatic outreach reflects Yerevan’s efforts to diversify its international partnerships amid changing regional security and geopolitical circumstances.
